Teeth Whitening
All teeth can be whitened but some respond better than others. There are many different systems on the market today. The most common questions we get are:
1) “Do they damage your teeth?”
2) “What is the difference between systems from a dental office and the over the counter products?”
Why professional teeth whitening?
Millions of people have whitened their teeth over the years and it has been proven to be effective and safe if used properly. You should never whiten if you have active decay as the bleaching agent can get into the cavities and can cause pain and even nerve deterioration. That is why a dental cleaning and exam is important before you begin. Basically, whitening is very safe with no tooth damage.
Over the counter products (Crest White strips) work well but are not as comfortable or convenient as custom trays that are made in a dental office. At Lakeside Family Dentistry you can get Professional Strength Crest White strips which the retail stores cannot offer or professional strength gel kits with custom trays. These trays hold the whitening gels against the teeth making it easier and quicker to get the desired results. We also check the results to make sure there are no problems. Sensitivity is an issue sometimes but there are desensitizing gels that can help.
We feel that whitening your teeth is a great way to give you that great smile that you deserve.
